We just had the Yamato Bonsai Kai annual show and there was one Trident Maple on exhibit by our sensei that had amazing deep red color and just barely held on to its leaves for the show so it looked really incredible. What about everyone else, which of your trees has your favorite fall colors?

Funny....I just read the headline of the posting...and my response was going to be trident maple.
I've had different varieties of elms and maples and other decidious trees.

Right now I just have two trees.
One of them is a little trident maple that I have in a one gallon pot.
It's trying to turn on some red color, but it's still holding onto green.

It sounds like the trident maple on exhibit was stunning.

my evergreen Cryptomerias blow my mind every winter > just the fact that their colors change so subtly every day from chartreuse to orange to bronze to yellow to eggplanty purple-brown and back again is so endlessly cool!
all the maples were cool this year too, especially the 'shin deshojo' and A. pal. linearilobum atropurpureum which still has crimson leaves; all the others *poof* gone in the wind
